SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's basketball team host Sacramento State Thursday night before embarking on a 10-day road trip that includes five games. The Broncos and Hornets tip-off at 7 p.m. at the Leavey Center in SCU's last home game until Dec. 18.
The Broncos then travel to Flagstaff to battle the Lady Lumberjacks of Northern Arizona at 6:35 p.m. on Nov. 24. SCU makes its way to the East Coast to take on the Eagles of Florida Gulf Coast. The game is slated for 3 p.m. PT on Nov. 26.
Last Time Out
Santa Clara faced two tough setbacks last week to open the 2008-09 season, with losses to Cal State Fullerton and Minnesota. Against Fullerton, sophomore Lena Gipson compiled her first double-double with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Freshman Becky Goll led the team with 11 points. Against Minnesota, Gipson and Sara Majors pulled down a game-high seven rebounds each, while Majors led the game with six assists.

Bronco Watch
Santa Clara enters the week ahead looking for its first win of the year. Under the direction of first-year head coach Jennifer Mountain, SCU returns six letterwinners and two starters from last season and welcomes five talented newcomers.
Forward Gipson leads the team in points and rebounds, nearly averaging a double-double after the first week of play with 11.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. Senior Claire Goins owns a team-best 70.0 field goal percentage. Majors, Goins and Elizabeth Doran are all perfect from the charity stripe.
It's Raining Threes
The Broncos are at it again, with Goll, Doran and freshman Alyssa Shoji showing off their three-point shooting skills. Goll leads lead the group with a perfect 3FG percentage, while Doran is second on the team, shooting, 75.0 (3-for-4) and Shoji has notched her first two career treys against Minnesota.
Last Time...
The last time the Broncos dropped their first two games of the season was in 2005-06. Santa Clara went on to post a 19-12 overall record and win a share of the West Coast Conference regular-season crown with an 11-3 record. SCU also advanced to the WNIT that season.
Scouting Sac State
The Hornets enter Thursday's game with an 0-2 record as well. Sac State fell 92-71 to UNLV and 100-45 to Oregon State. The Hornets return all five starters from last season and nine of their 11 letterwinners. Leading the team thus far is Atty Boyer with 13.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Erick Edwards is the team's rebounding leader with 8.0 per game.
Last Time vs. Sac State
The Broncos and Hornets last met on Dec. 1, 2007, when Santa Clara posted a 67-60 victory at the Hornets Nest. Chandice Cronk led the game with 33 points, while Tracey Walker added 14 points. Majors was the team's rebounding leader with six. Boyer had 16 points for Sac State and Edwards led the game with 10 rebounds and had 17 points.

Thursday's game marks the 16th meeting of the two programs in which Santa Clara owns an 11-4 all-time record. The Broncos are 8-0 at home against the Hornets.
Scouting Northern Arizona
The Lady Lumberjacks enter Monday's game after a battle with Utah State on Wednesday and Pepperdine on Saturday. NAU is 0-2 going into the weekend after falling 64-47 at Memphis and 71-40 at Arkansas State. The Lumberjacks return three of their starters from last season. Lauren Hoisington leads the squad with 10.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Janelle Matthews averages 9.0 points thus far and has collected four steals.
Last Time vs. NAU
SCU and NAU last met on Dec. 29, 2007 at the Leavey Center, when the Broncos posted a 76-66 victory. Jen Gottschalk led the game with 27 points, while Cronk added 17 points and Walker had 12. Ashley Ingle and Laura Dinkins led for NAU with 19 points each, while Dinkins posted a game-high 13 rebounds.

Monday's game marks the second meeting of these two programs. The first-ever meeting was in December 2007.
Scouting Florida Gulf Coast
The Eagles enter next Wednesday's game with a 1-1 record and will have nine days between games. FGCU started the season with an 88-86 win over Florida but fell 81-64 to then-No. 21/24 Florida State. The Eagles return only one starter from last year and just three letterwinners. Adrianne McNally leads the team thus far with 14.0 points per game. Chelsea Lyles is second with 11.0 points and leads with 5.5 rebounds per game.

The Broncos remain on the road for the second half of their holiday road trip. Santa Clara will participate in the 2008 UM Thanksgiving Tournament hosted by the University of Miami. The Broncos will face the Cougars of Chicago State in the first round on Nov. 28 at 2 p.m. PT. SCU will then play either Austin Peay or Miami on Nov. 29. Santa Clara concludes its road trip back on the West Coast against the Aggies of UC Davis. Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at The Pavilion in Davis, Calif.
