Santa Clara Has Three Earn All-WCC Honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Santa Clara University power forward Lena Gipson was one of 10 players named to the 2009-10 All-West Coast Conference Women's Basketball Team, as voted upon by the league's coaches. Gipson was one of three Bronco players recognized when the all-league honors were announced Monday. Rookie guard Meagan Fulps was named to the WCC All-Freshman Team and sophomore point guard Alyssa Shoji was an All-WCC Honorable Mention selection.

Lena Gipson (Hanford, Calif./San Joaquin Memorial HS), heads into this week's WCC Championship tournament averaging a double-double (12.2 ppg/10.0 rpg). Her 14 double-doubles this season ranks No. 19 in the NCAA. A sophomore transfer last season, Gipson is on pace to become Santa Clara's No. 2 all-time leading rebounder in just three seasons. She currently ranks 7th in school history with 597 rebounds and a 12.9 ppg scoring average, 10th in FG% (.505) and 10th in blocks (39).

Santa Clara shooting guard Meagan Fulps (Littleton, Colo./Highlands Ranch HS) was named to the 2009-10 WCC All-Freshman Team. Fulps finished the year as the league's top-scoring freshman (11.2 ppg). On eight different occasions, Fulps scored 15-plus points. She started in 24 of the 26 games she appeared in before injury cut her year short in mid-February. She ranked 6th in the league in minutes played (33.6 mpg) and 8th in 3-point shooting (42). She also made good on 21 of 24 free throws against WCC opponents.

Alyssa Shoji (Bellevue,Wash./Issaquah HS) was an All-WCC Honorable Mention selection. Shoji leads all conference players in 3-point field goals (2.7 p/g) and ranks No. 25 among all NCAA Division I players in 3-pointers made (79). Shoji is on pace to post the 5th-best single-season 3-point total in WCC history. She is Santa Clara's leading scorer (14.1 ppg), ranking 9th among all WCC players in points. Not only is she one of the WCC's best players, but one of its best students. The business major has posted a 3.42 Cum GPA at Santa Clara and was named to the 2010 WCC Winter All-Academic team.
