Basketball's Kathy Willinsky Checks In

Preview by Marcus Akerland, Student Assistant, Media Relations

Looking forward to the season in the winter, Kathy Willinsky of the women's Basketball team has been hard at work over the summer, spending time practicing her game and giving back to the community.

Willinsky took some time to talk with santaclarabroncos.com about her goals for the upcoming season and her experience at Santa Clara University.

SCU: What are your goals for the upcoming season, both personal and team oriented?
Kathy Willinsky:
I would like to have a successful season, and my personal goal is to be more of a leader this year.

SCU: What have you been doing this summer, both with the basketball team and in your free time?
KW:
This summer I stayed up at school to work out with Joe, our strength and conditioning coach, and I have been working out everyday with him and shooting in the gym. In my free time I have been working with the students at Loma Prieta Elementary School.

SCU: Describe your experience at Santa Clara after two seasons?
KW:
My experience the last two years has taught me a lot about myself and what it takes for a team to be successful at this level. This has given me a better grasp at what it takes to lead.

SCU: What is the most memorable experience you have had with the women's basketball team?
KW:
Going to the WCC Tournament this past year in Las Vegas, which is my hometown. Having the chance to play in front of all my family, friends, and old coaches and handedly beating St. Mary's was amazing. Especially since we were underdogs!

SCU: What is something Bronco fans do not know about you?
KW:
I listen to "Put the Game on You" by The Game before every game.
