‘Go Green,’ Recycle with SCU Basketball Thursday Night

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara University women's basketball program is hosting its annual 'Go Green' awareness event during the team's West Coast Conference game against Pepperdine, Thursday, January 27 at 7 p.m.

At the entrance gate of SCU's Leavey Center, fans are encouraged to bring used batteries, ink cartridges, cell phones, CD's or DVD's. Those will be the only acceptable items, but any fan bringing recyclables will receive a FREE raffle ticket for prizes awarded during the game.

SCU prides itself on diverting waste from landfills by either recycling, composting, reusing, or donating. This is largely due to a comprehensive recycling program initiated by the University, which has allowed for the disposal of 2,954,877 pounds (1,477 tons) of waste (including recycled and composted materials) in a recent calendar year alone.

Also on Thursday night, women's soccer alumnus and U.S. Olympian Brandi Chastain will be the featured speaker at halftime as part of the West Coast Conference 'Represent' campaign, which aims to promote sportsmanship, institutional values and fan support for all WCC athletic programs.
