Santa Clara Women’s Basketball Signs Washington Guard Katie Hawkins

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara University's women's basketball Head Coach Jennifer Mountain has received a National Letter of Intent from Katie Hawkins, a 5-foot-10 guard from Snohomish, Wash. and senior at Glacier Peak High School.

"We are extremely excited to have Katie join our Bronco family," said Mountain. "She is a great fit for our program and for our University.  Her skill set combined with knowledge and competitiveness make her extremely valuable."

Hawkins can really distribute the basketball, dishing out 4.2 assists per game last season, while averaging 12.5 points. ESPN.com writes 'Uncommon size and skill-set combination makes Hawkins not only a big point guard, but a player who can handle the other perimeter positions and provide a low-post element to each. At the point, she can make all the passes, including putting the ball on a laser from 3/4 court.'

"Katie has the ability to dominate a game in a variety of ways," added Mountain. "She is a weapon and a threat each and every time she catches the ball and she will add a toughness element that we are always looking for in our players. She is a complete player combined with size, strength and a will to win!"

Hawkins was a First Team 3A All-WesCo league honoree last season. She led Glacier Peak to a 15-11 overall record and an appearance in the 2011 Washington State tournament at the Tacoma Dome. As a sophomore, Hawkins stepped up and was instrumental to the Grizzlies run in the district playoffs.
