Santa Clara’s Alyssa Shoji is NCAA’s Top 3-Point Shooter

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Alyssa Shoji, Santa Clara University's women's basketball point guard, is currently leading all NCAA Division I players in three-point shooting. The senior from Bellevue, Wash. has made 54 threes this season, shooting 51.9 percent from beyond the arc.

Her average of 3.9 makes per game ranks No. 1 nationally in the latest NCAA statistical rankings and her shooting percentage comes in at No. 2 (at this pace both would be new single-season school records). Shoji is enjoying an outstanding senior year, scoring 17.1 points per contest while distributing 3.6 assists and shooting 96.1 percent from the free throw line.

"Every year we have gotten better and better," said Shoji recently about her Bronco career. "I am so excited to have played for JMO [head coach Jennifer Mountain] and to be part of this program, which just keeps getting stronger."

Shoji has led the Broncos to a 7-7 record so far this season, which included a five-game winning streak in late November through early December. She ranks among Santa Clara's all-time leaders in points, assists, three-pointers, free throw percentage and free throw shooting. She needs just four more 3s to break the program's all-time record.

Most recently, during the month of December, Shoji scored 20 points or more four times in eight games. She matched a career-high by going 7 of 9 from three-point range at Sacramento State (Dec. 22) and finished with a season-high 25 points to lead SCU to the road win and a winning overall record of 7-6 during non-conference play.

Shoji also had a career-best eight assists in that game at Sacramento State. She was named to the Jesuit Women's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll (Dec. 25), averaged 17.1 points per game in December, played 33-plus minutes per night and made all 11 of her free throw attempts.
