SCU Broncos Sign High-Scoring Prep Guard Brooke Gallaway

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara University's women's basketball head coach Jennifer Mountain has received a National Letter of Intent from 5-foot-10 guard Brooke Gallaway, a product of Spokane, Wash. and Central Valley High School, where she was the 2012 Greater Spokane League (GSL) MVP.

"We are so excited to have Brooke join our Bronco family. She is a great fit for Santa Clara and our program. Brooke brings a hard-nosed work ethic and is extremely competitive," said Mountain. "She has tremendous upside and is someone who comes from a winning tradition."

Gallaway poured in 16.5 points per game as a prep senior, leading Central Valley to a 25-3 overall record. Gallaway also led the Bears to an appearance in the 2012 Washington State Class 4A Championship game at the Tacoma Dome. She was named an Associated Press First Team All-State selection - one of just five players to earn the honor in 4A (the state's premier division for high school athletics).

Gallaway scored 1,429 career points at Central Valley, averaging 12.3 points per game as a high school freshman. She went on to average 13.2 points as a sophomore and 16.8 as a junior.

"I am excited to have a Spokane native and one of the GSL's top student-athletes," says Mountain. "She's had great success and has proved to be one of the best all-time scorers in GSL history. Having both Brooke and Katie (Hawkins) together as a class will be special for us. They complement each other very well and we believe they have the determination to continue our success through the upcoming years."

Gallaway joins Katie Hawkins - another Washington State product - in Santa Clara's incoming recruiting class for 2012-13. Hawkins, a 5-foot-10 guard from Snohomish, Wash. and Glacier Peak High School, is an excellent distributor, dishing out 4.2 assists per game as a junior. Hawkins earned First Team 3A All-WesCo league honors for the second consecutive season as a senior in 2011-12.
