SCU Women Lead the Way On Jesuit Basketball’s National All-Academic Team

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara University junior's Ashley Armstrong and Meagan Fulps (pictured l-r) are part of the six newcomers who make up the 2011-2012 National Academic All-Jesuit Women's Basketball Team as announced today by the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU) and the Jesuit Basketball Spotlight.

Among their co-honorees is Ally Jensen (Jr., G, Ames, IA) of Creighton who continues the presence of Bluejay student-athletes on the team. She is the eighth Creighton player to be a part of the Academic All-Jesuit Team in the past three seasons.

Joining the trio on this year's team are Emilee Ritchie (John Carroll, Sr., G, Stow, OH), Amy Sprout (Loyola New Orleans, Sr., F, Harahan, LA), who was honored nationally by the NAIA, and Alyssa Sutherland (Loyola Maryland, Jr., F, Syracuse, NY). The dynamic backcourt of Loyola New Orleans, Keiva Council (Sr., G, Houston, TX) and Jasmine Brewer (So., G, Houston, TX), both named to the 2011-2012 All-Jesuit team recently, also earned honorable-mention status on the Academic All-Jesuit team, joining Kara Larson (Regis, Jr., F, Palmer, AK); Sarah Nelson (Creighton, So., Omaha, NE); and Vania Singleterry (San Francisco, Sr., G, Murrieta, CA).

The All-Jesuit Team represents student-athletes from the 28 Jesuit colleges spread across the United States that play basketball on all three levels of the NCAA and also in the NAIA. They share the mission of Jesuit education, founded nearly 500 years ago under the principles of St. Ignatius Loyola to educate young people to become men and women dedicated to service and compassionate leadership. 3.86 in Anthropology…. Named to the WCC All-Academic first team…. Started 29 of the Broncos' 30 games…. Finished fourth on the team in scoring, second in rebounding, and second in blocks…. Reached double figures in 12 games with a high of 19 in the WCC Tournament…. Posted one double-double…. Hit the game-winning three-pointer with 6.2 seconds left vs. Northern Colorado…. 8.1 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 1.3 apg.

Meagan Fulps – Santa Clara (Jr., G, 5-7, Littleton, CO)
3.63 in Communication…. Named to the WCC All-Academic first team…. Started 29 of the Broncos' 30 games…. Placed second on the team in scoring and third in rebound-ing…. Reached double figures 15 times with three games over 20 points…. Matched a career high with 30 points vs. Cal State Bakersfield…. Posted one double-double…. 11.1 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 2.4 apg, 75.0%FT.
