Sam Farber and Doug Greenwald to Share Play-by-Play Duties for Women's Basketball

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – With the 2013-14 season fast approaching, Santa Clara women's basketball has hired Doug Greenwald and Sam Farber to share radio play-by-play duties. Greenwald will call 22 games while Farber will call nine, including the West Coast Conference Tournament from March 6-11, 2014.

"I'm extremely excited to have Sam back doing radio for us and to welcome Doug," said Bronco head coach Jennifer Mountain. "Sam has been invested our program from the beginning and it's great to have him back. To have them sharing duties will bring some new enthusiasm to the program and I think they will both do a great job."

"I am excited to work with Coach Mountain and her staff," said Greenwald. "The program is headed in a very exciting direction. Last season I had the chance to fill in for several games last year and now I will be able to see the entire squad develop over the course of the season."

Greenwald was born in Sydney, Australia and attended Boston University where he graduated in 1996 with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. He attended Raoul Wallenberg Traditional High School in San Francisco, Calif.

Since 2006 Greenwald has done Internet play-by-play for San Francisco Giants spring training games and has called exhibitions with Jon Miller on KNBR 680. In 2009 and 2010 he called four regular season Giants games on KNBR 680.

Since 2003 Greenwald has been the radio play-by-play man for the Fresno Grizzlies, the AAA affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. He has been calling baseball games since 1996 in the minor leagues and independent leagues.

In 2005 he was awarded the Ralphie Award. The Minor League News presents the award to the Minor League Broadcaster of the Year.

Greenwald's father, Hank, served as a major league radio and television play-by-play broadcaster with the San Francisco Giants, New York Yankees and Oakland Athletics while also calling Golden State Warriors' games on the radio.

In his free time Greenwald enjoys travelling around the U.S. He has attended a Division I men's basketball game in all 50 stats and Washington D.C. 

"It is a thrill to return to Santa Clara University," said Farber. "This is a special place and I have a lot of great memories here. I look forward to creating some more memories and bringing the fans the highlights of what we all believe will be a fantastic 2013-14 season." 

Farber was born in San Jose, Calif. and attended George Washington University where he graduated in 2006 in with a B.A. in Journalism. He graduated from the University of Southern California with a Masters in Broadcast Journalism in 2009. He attended Leigh High School in San Jose and graduated in 2002. 

Since 2009 Farber has worked as a play-by-play broadcaster, sideline reporter, and studio host for Time Warner Cable/ iBN Sports for national and regional football and basketball games of the week.

Since 2008 he has done play-by-play for men's and women's basketball for Cal Poly Pomona and UC Riverside. He called games for Santa Clara women's basketball in 2008-12. Farber has also worked covering minor league baseball for the Inland Empire 66ers, Colorado Spring Sky Sox, and Bowie Baysox. He has covered baseball and women's basketball on Big West TV and the University Network for Cal State Northridge. 

In his free time Farber enjoys weekend trips, movies, and hanging out with his beautiful wife Lauren and their dog Homer.
