Avila Getting Ready for Final Home Games

SantaClaraBroncos.com (SCB) got a chance to talk to Raquel (Rocky) Avila (RA) from the women's basketball team to get her feelings on the season thus far and what is to come after her final season as a Bronco.

SCB: You have had a fantastic senior season thus far. What emotions have you been feeling about your final year in a Bronco uniform?

RA: Playing my final season in a Bronco uniform is bittersweet. It's exciting to be a senior with an opportunity to lead the team, but sad because I don't want this year to end.

SCB: What is the team's mindset heading into the final stretch of the regular season? Are you looking forward to any games in particular?

RA: Our mindset is the same as it's been all season. We may not have the most talent or height, but we are focused on being the hardest working, most disciplined, and toughest team on the court. When we have done those three things we have been successful.

SCB: After the season ends, whenever that may be, what is the next step for you? Do you plan to continue playing?

RA: After the season ends, I'm still unsure as to what I'll be doing. I love basketball too much to ever stop playing.

SCB: Any advice for incoming student-athletes about your experience at Santa Clara up to this point?

RA: My advice to incoming student-athletes is to cherish every moment because it goes by quickly. And don't take for granted the opportunity to play college basketball, especially for great coaches like J.R., Toriano, Bianca and Shan. I was blessed to get one year with them, but wish I had more.
