Regular Season Comes to an End for Women's Basketball

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Heading into the final week of regular season play, Santa Clara women's basketball hits the road for games at Pacific and Saint Mary's. The Broncos play the Tigers Thurs., Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. and the Gaels Sat., Feb. 28 at 1 p.m. Last week the Broncos topped Pepperdine but fell on Senior Day to LMU. Santa Clara is 10-15 on the season and 5-11 in conference play. They sit one game out of sixth place, which would give them a bye in the first round of the WCC Tournament.

Santa Clara is being outscored on the season by an average of 68.4-66.0 but outrebounding opponents 41.9-37.7. The Broncos are shooting 38.6% (600-1556) from the field, 29.5% (106-359) from three, and 71.0% (345-486) from the free throw line.

Nici Gilday leads Santa Clara with 19.0 ppg on 39.4% (165-419) shooting from the field. She is tops on the team in threes made (62), attempted (170), three point percentage (36.5%), and steals (1.6). Gilday leads the nation in free throw shooting (93.3%) and is first in the conference in minutes per game (34.6). She adds 2.8 rpg and 1.4 apg. Marie Bertholdt leads the team with 7.7 rpg and is second in scoring with 9.8 ppg. She is shooting 48.0% (82-171) from the field and leads the team in free throws attempted (112). Raquel Avila is tops on the team with 3.5 apg while scoring 4.8 ppg and grabbing 2.2 rpg. Maddison Allen is averaging a team-high 1.2 bpg and scoring 3.6 ppg to go with 3.8 rpg.

Santa Clara is 25-19 all-time vs. Pacific with the first meeting coming in 1974-75. Earlier this season the Tigers topped the Broncos 61-59 at Leavey.

Pacific is 20-7 on the season and 12-4 in conference play. They are 10-3 at home. Last week they topped Portland and handed Gonzaga its first WCC loss of the season.

The Tigers are outscoring opponents 69.9-62.6 but being outrebounded 40.3-36.0. They are shooting 40.0% (667-1668) from the field, 33.6% (202-602) from three, and 70.3% (351-499) from the free throw line.

Kendall Kenyon leads Pacific with 13.6 ppg and 11.2 rpg on 47.0% (135-287) shooting from the field. She also leads the team with 1.8 bpg and is second with 1.8 spg. Hailie Eackles scores 11.5 ppg while leading the team with 53 threes made. Madison Parrish scores 9.8 ppg and is second with 4.0 apg. Kristina Johnson leads the way with 4.1 apg while scoring 6.7 ppg. Unique Coleman leads Pacific with 1.9 spg and scores 8.0 ppg to go with 3.7 rpg.

Santa Clara is 34-33 all-time vs. Saint Mary's with the first meeting coming in 1978-79. Earlier this season the Gaels topped the Broncos by one at Leavey.

Saint Mary's is 19-8 on the season and 12-4 in the WCC. They are 10-3 at home. Last week the Gaels fell at Gonzaga but bounced back with a win at Portland.

The Gaels are outscoring opponents 64.9-63.6 and outrebounding them 42.0-31.1. They are shooting 41.7% (615-1474) from the field, 30.0% (96-320) from three, and 72.1% (492-682) from the free throw line.

Lauren Nicholson leads Saint Mary's in scoring with 17.2 ppg on 44.6% (162-363) shooting from the field and a team-best 33 threes made. She grabs 3.7 rpg to go with 1.8 apg. Shannon Mauldin scores 10.4 ppg with 5.8 rpg and leads the team in assists (2.6) and steals (1.9). Carli Rosenthal leads the team with 7.5 rpg and adds 6.2 ppg. Stella Beck is scoring 8.3 ppg and grabbing 6.1 rpg while shooting a team-high 58.0% (87-150) from the field.
