Meet the Future of Santa Clara Women's Basketball: Kyla Martin

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's basketball has added Kyla Martin of Chino, Calif. to the 2015-16 recruiting class. Martin attended Etiwanda High School and East Los Angeles College last year. She plans to study Business Management at Santa Clara.

"Kyla is truly the missing piece to our Santa Clara puzzle for next season," said Santa Clara head coach JR Payne. "She brings a level of athleticism that we were looking for and not only great point guard skills but the ability to score the ball as well. She is an outstanding and very driven student and will thrive in the challenging academic environment that Santa Clara has to offer. We are absolutely thrilled to have Kyla join our Bronco family and know that she will have a great impact in the SCU community."

As a freshman at ELAC Martin averaged 24 ppg, four rpg, and two apg. She was named MVP of the Mission College Tournament, All-Team at the Cypress Tournament, and All-Team at the San Francisco Tournament. As a freshman she was Third Team All-State and Freshman of the Year as well as being named Female Athlete of the Month for December. The team went 29-4 en route to the Final Four. It was the first trip to state for the program.

As a senior in high school Martin averaged 10 points per game and four rebounds per game. As a junior she averaged seven ppg and three spg. As a sophomore she scored 11 ppg to go with five rpg, and three assists per game.

Her high school team was Baseline League champions and made it to the CIF semifinals in 2012-13 and 2013-14. Martin was an honor roll student throughout high school.

In her free time Martin enjoys watching movies and going to the beach.
