Women's Basketball Travels Up the Road to Stanford Monday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Coming off the first win of the season, Santa Clara women's basketball returns to the court Monday at 7 p.m. at No. 10 Stanford. The Broncos took down Air Force 68-34 on Saturday in the Leavey Center in the home opener. Doug Greenwald will have the internet call for Santa Clara from Maples Pavilion.

Santa Clara (1-2) is shooting 35.6% (57-160) from the field during the first three games of the season. The Broncos have scored an average of 56.3 points per game and grabbed 39.7 rebounds per game. They have already collected 36 steals as a team.

Savanna Hanson leads the team with 10.7 ppg on 45.8% (11-24) shooting from the field. She adds 4.3 rpg and 2.0 spg. Devin Hudson averages 8.7 ppg on 66.7% (12-18) from the floor and leads the Broncos with 6.3 rpg. Taylor Berry is tops on Santa Clara with eight steals while adding 8.3 ppg and 2.7 rpg.

Santa Clara is 11-30 all-time vs. Stanford with the first meeting coming during the 1963-64 season. Last year the Cardinal beat the Broncos up in Palo Alto.

Stanford (3-0) topped George Washington 84-63 on Saturday. In the first three games the Cardinal have shot 41.5% (80-193) from the field and 37.3% (22-59) from beyond the arc. They have added 14.7 apg and outscored opponents 223-156.

"Stanford is a very well balanced team," said Santa Clara head coach JR Payne. "They can defend, rebound, and can score in bunches. They will be a very tough opponent and a great challenge for us."

Erica McCall is averaging a double-double with 17.0 ppg and 11.3 rpg. Her five steals and five blocks are also tops on the team. Lili Thompson is scoring 17.3 ppg to lead the team and leads the Cardinal with eight threes made. Briana Roberson is averaging a team-best 4.0 apg to go with 7.3 ppg and 3.0 rpg.
