Women's Basketball Faces Portland Saturday to Finish Homestand

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's basketball finishes its three-game homestand Saturday at 2 p.m. vs. Portland. On Thursday the Broncos took down Gonzaga 71-64. It was their first win over the Bulldogs since Feb. 2, 2006.

Santa Clara (16-5, 7-3 WCC) is outscoring opponents 65.7-57.9 and outrebounding teams 41.3-33.4. The Broncos are No. 14 in the nation with 16.3 offensive rebounds per game.

As a team Santa Clara forces 22.9 turnovers per game, sixth in the country, and collects 13.0 steals per game, third nationally.

The Broncos shoot 39.6 percent from the field and have hit 76 3-pointers. They are 11th in the country with 472 free throw attempts and 19th with 321 free throws made.

Lori Parkinson leads Santa Clara with 11.5 points per game and 25 blocks. She is third on the team with 6.0 rebounds per game and 2.1 spg.

Savanna Hanson paces the Broncos with 2.5 assists per game and is third in scoring with 9.2 ppg. She also leads the team with 20 3-pointers made and is fourth in the league with 2.2 spg.

Devin Hudson leads the Broncos with 6.2 rpg and scores 7.1 ppg on a team-best 55.1 percent shooting from the floor.

Taylor Berry is No. 30 in the country with 54 steals and adds 7.1 ppg and 3.9 rpg.

Santa Clara is 38-30 all-time vs. Portland and 20-12 in Leavey. The first meeting came in 1986-87. Earlier this year the Broncos took down the Pilots 67-45 in Portland.

Portland (2-19, 0-10 WCC) is being outscored 75.4-58.3 and outrebounded 40.2-31.7. The Pilots are shooting 39.2 percent from the floor and 33.5 percent from beyond the arc.

They have lost 16 straight games and do not have a win over a DI team this season.

Ellie Woerner leads the team with 12.6 ppg  and adds 3.9 rpg. Holly Blades has hit a team-best 39 3-pointers and scores 7.7 ppg with 3.5 rpg. Ashley Gray leads the Pilots with 4.2 rpg and scores 7.2 ppg. Kaylie Van Loo is fifth in the WCC with 3.8 apg. She scores 6.5 ppg as well.
