SANTA CLARA, Calif. –Santa Clara women's basketball announced its nonconference schedule Friday. The Broncos, under first year head coach Bill Carr, start the season Nov. 2 with the first of two exhibitions at home before beginning the regular season Nov. 11. They will play five home games and eight on the road.

The highlights include a trip to Cal on Nov. 14 and the Play 4 Kay Shootout in Las Vegas Dec. 19-21. Santa Clara will play three games and could face Oklahoma State, UNLV, New Mexico State, South Florida, Oregon State, Missouri State, or Quinnipiac.

After facing Notre Dame de Namur on Nov. 2 and Chico State on Nov. 5 for a pair of tune-ups, the Broncos welcome Idaho State for the season-opener on Nov. 11.

Santa Clara then heads on the road to play at Cal and at San Jose State before taking part in the Tiger Turkey Tip-Off Thanksgiving Tournament in Stockton. The Broncos will face Marquette and Montana State Nov. 25-26.

A visit to UC Santa Barbara wraps up a five-game road trip before the UC Santa Cruz and Northwestern come to the Leavey Center.

The MGM Classic wraps up nonconference play for the Broncos.

Potential nonconference opponents that made the NCAA Tournament last year are Oklahoma State, New Mexico State, South Florida, Oregon State, and Missouri State all went to the tournament last season.

Last season Santa Clara won 23 games, the most since 1997-98 when the Broncos won the same number and advanced to the first round of the NCAA Tournament. They were rewarded with a trip to the WNIT, their first postseason appearance in 10 years.

With a win against a Big Five conference (the Big Ten, Big 12, Atlantic Coast Conference, Pac-12 and Southeastern Conference) team, the Broncos will make it three straight seasons with a win over a team in one of those five conferences. The Broncos beat No. 13 Stanford and Texas Tech last season and topped LSU in 2014-15.

The West Coast Conference schedule was announced last month.
