Women's Basketball Looks To Make It Three in a Row Against Gonzaga

Gonzaga Game Notes

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Beginning a tough four-game road trip, Santa Clara women's basketball travels to preseason pick to win the West Coast Conference Gonzaga at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Last week the Broncos split at home, falling to San Diego 57-56 before bouncing back with a convincing 61-40 win against Pepperdine.

Santa Clara is 29-34 all-time against Gonzaga with the first meeting coming during the 1987-88 season. Last year the Bulldogs won the first meeting in Spokane but the Broncos won in Santa Clara and again in the quarterfinals of the WCC Tournament in Las Vegas.

The win in Leavey on Jan. 28 was the first win for the Broncos over the Bulldogs since Feb. 2, 2006. In that span Santa Clara had lost 20 in a row to Gonzaga. With the win in the conference tournament, the Broncos beat Zags twice in the same year for the first time since 2002-03.
