Women's Basketball Returns to Leavey for Matchup with Portland Thursday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Returning home for the first time in two weeks, Santa Clara women's basketball hosts Portland Thursday at 7 p.m. to kick-off a four-game homestand.

Last week the Broncos lost a pair of heart-breakers on the road. They fell in double overtime at BYU 72-66 on Thursday and lost 55-53 at Saint Mary's on Saturday when a last-second shot was off the mark.

Santa Clara is 41-30 all-time against Portland and 21-12 in Leavey. Earlier this season the Broncos won 56-44 in Portland for their seventh win in a row in the series.

THE BRONCOS
Santa Clara (9-12, 4-6 WCC) has lost four in a row with three coming to the top three teams in the West Coast Conference.

The Broncos are scoring 61.9 points per game this season while shooting 38.2 percent from the field and 31.2 percent from beyond the arc. They have a plus-2.3 rebound differential and are forcing 17.2 turnovers per game.

Emily Wolph leads the team with 12.8 ppg and 3.9 apg. She is also tops in the conference with 51 3-pointers made. Lori Parkinson is second on the roster with 12.2 ppg and is tied for fifth in the league with 7.8 rpg. She leads Santa Clara with 1.8 steals per game.

Morgan McGwire is fourth in the WCC with 7.8 rpg and third with 1.4 blocks per game. She is third on the Broncos with 10.7 ppg. Marie Bertholdt is scoring 10.0 ppg and grabbing 5.3 rpg.

THE PILOTS
Portland (4-17, 2-8 WCC) has lost seven of its last eight and 13 of its last 15. The Pilots were able to take down Pepperdine 75-55 at home on Thursday.

They are being outscored by 12.9 points per game and have a minus-4.7 rebound differential. Portland is shooting 35.7 percent from the field and 29.6 percent from beyond the arc.

Darian Slaga leads the team with 11.0 ppg in just over 20 minutes per game. Kayle Van Loo is second in the WCC with 5.2 apg and fifth with 2.0 spg. She is second on the Pilots with 10.1 ppg. Julie Spencer grabs a team-high 7.4 rpg and is third in scoring with 8.7 ppg. Holly Blades is second in the conference with 44 3-pointers made and is scoring 8.4 ppg.

Parking: For weekday games, the Leavey Center lot, located on Accolti Way off El Camino Real, is free beginning one hour prior to tipoff. Any other parking facility on campus will be subject to normal daily rates or restrictions, including the main structure, located on Palm Drive.
