Women's Basketball Faces Saint Mary's Thursday in WCC Tournament Quarterfinals

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's basketball faces Saint Mary's in the quarterfinals of the West Coast Conference Tournament Thursday at 6 p.m. in Las Vegas at the Orleans Arena.

On the final weekend of the regular season, The Broncos beat Pacific 61-51 but fell to the Gaels Saturday on Senior Day.

Santa Clara is 35-37 all-time vs. Saint Mary's and 15-19 in Leavey. The first meeting came in 1978-79. Earlier this season the Gaels escaped Moraga with a 55-53 victory and won in Leavey Saturday.

THE BRONCOS
Santa Clara (14-15, 9-9 WCC) finished the regular season tied for fifth in the WCC but will have the sixth-seed due to the tiebreaker with LMU.

The Broncos are scoring 62.2 points per game while shooting 38.7 percent from the floor and 29.9 percent from beyond the arc. They have a plus-1.7 rebound differential and are forcing 17.6 turnovers per game.

Emily Wolph leads the team with 12.7 ppg and 3.7 assists per game. She leads the conference with 71 3-pointers made and is fourth with an 84.5 percent mark from the free throw line. Lori Parkinson leads Santa Clara and is fourth in the conference with 1.9 steals per game. She is second on the Broncos with 12.2 ppg and 7.6 rpg.

Morgan McGwire is fifth in the WCC with 7.7 rpg and fourth with 1.2 blocks per game. She is scoring 10.4 ppg. Marie Bertholdt scores 11.3 ppg and adds 5.5 rpg.

Parkinson, Bertholdt, and Wolph were all honored on the All-WCC teams.

THE GAELS
Saint Mary's (18-11, 13-5 WCC) enters the tournament on a three-game winning streak. The Gaels tied with BYU for second in the conference standings but are the No. 3 seed.

They are scoring 71.2 ppg, first in the WCC, while shooting a conference-high 44.1 percent from the field and 33.2 percent from beyond the arc. The Gaels have a league-best plus-10.7 rebound differential and are forcing 15.0 tpg.

Stella Beck leads Saint Mary's with 13.9 ppg and 3.2 apg and leads the conference with a 55.6 percent mark from the field. She also adds 5.4 rpg. Megan McKay is fourth in the league with 7.9 rpg and is second on the team with 10.8 ppg. She is second in the league with a 55.4 percent mark from the floor. Carly Turner leads the Gaels with 48 3-pointers made and is third with 10.1 ppg while grabbing 5.3 rpg.
