Women's Basketball Rolls by UC Santa Cruz in Exhibition

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's basketball began the season with a convincing 71-32 victory over UC Santa Cruz Wednesday night in an exhibition in the Leavey Center.

The Broncos shot 47.5 percent from the field for the game and knocked down seven 3-pointers. They had 23 assists on 29 made baskets. Their defense forced 24 turnovers and held the Banana Slugs to just 21.3 percent shooting.

Emily Wolph led all scorers with 15 points and added five assists. Morgan McGwire scored 12 while grabbing six rebounds and Dru Toleafoa and Ashlyn Herlihy added 10 points and six rebounds apiece.

Katie Young led UC Santa Cruz with eight points while knocking down a pair of 3-pointers. Katilin Stephenson scores seven with four boards and Suhansi Perera added six points and six rebounds.

NOTES

  • Santa Clara is now 4-0 all-time against UC Santa Cruz.
  • Herlihy made her Broncos debut after redshirting last season.
  • UC Santa Cruz didn't score double-digits in any quarter.
