Women's Basketball Cruises Past Menlo 104-61

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Five players scored in double-figures to lead Santa Clara women's basketball to a 104-61 victory over Menlo Sunday afternoon in the final nonconference home action of the year.

The Broncos (3-5) dominated from the opening tip, scoring the first 20 points of the game while the Oaks (9-0) missed their first 12 shots and finished the day just 29.6-percent from the field.

Santa Clara used its considerable size advantage to pull down 62 rebounds and scored 52 points in the paint to help lead to a season-high 54.2-percent mark from the floor.

Ashlyn Herlihy led all players with 25 points and 14 rebounds, both career-highs for the redshirt freshman. She was 9-for-11 from the field and 4-for-6 from downtown in the first double-double of her career.

Taylor Berry also had a double-double with a season-high 11 rebounds and added 13 points. Tamia Braggs set career-highs in points (13) and rebounds (8) while going 6-for-7 from the field and Kyla Martin scored 14 while dishing out seven assists. Morgan McGwire had a season-best 13 boards to go with eight points.

After the Broncos fast start, Menlo was able to play the game even at the end of the first quarter and start the second but Santa Clara came back with a 19-2 run to made it a 47-15 lead. Braggs had six points on two offensive rebounds during the run and Martin scored seven.

Destinee Bowie led the Oaks with 19 points and Celina Pagain added 11 while hitting three 3-pointers. Madison Michelis had a team-high eight rebounds but was 0-for-9 from the field.

  • Santa Clara is now 1-0 all-time against Menlo.
  • The game counted as an exhibition for NAIA Division I Menlo.
  • The Broncos point total was the fourth most in program history and the most since a program-best 112 vs. Simpson on Nov. 4, 2015. They also grabbed 62 rebounds, the third most in program history and most since having 64 vs. Morgan State on Nov. 27,1994.
  • Taylor Berry made her 81st consecutive start.
  • Kyla Martin made a career-high seven free throws.
  • Santa Clara had 25 assists on 39 made baskets.
