Regular Season Opens for Women's Basketball Tuesday with Sonoma State

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The 2018-19 regular season opens for Santa Clara women's basketball Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Leavey Center against Sonoma State.

The Broncos began the season with a 74-53 exhibition win over Academy of Art Tuesday at home.

SERIES HISTORY
Santa Clara is 1-0 all-time against Sonoma State, picking up a 73-43 victory at home in the 2009-10 season-opener.

THE BRONCOS
Santa Clara (0-0) welcomes freshmen Lindsey VanAllen and Lexie Pritchard, junior college transfer Tia Hay as well as transfers Lauren Yearwood, Erica Meyer, and Joeseta Fatuesi who had to sit out 2017-18 due to NCAA transfer rules, and redshirt freshman Madison Piper to the roster for 2018-19.

The top returning scorer is Ashlyn Herlihy who scored 8.5 points per game a year ago with 5.0 rebounds per game as well. Charise Holloway returns for her senior season, and second with Santa Clara, after leading the team in 3-pointers made while scoring 7.5 ppg.

In the exhibition against Academy of Art, Herlihy had a double-double (16 points, 14 rebounds) while Pritchard (15) and VanAllen (14) both added double-figures. Yearwood chipped in seven points and eight rebounds with Dru Toleafoa and Emily Wolph, returning from injury, scoring nine apiece.

THE SEAWOLVES
Sonoma State finished last season 12-15 and returns top scorer Ugochi Anudokem whole scored 13.6 ppg a year ago while also leading the team with 7.7 rpg. The next highest scorer coming back is Kim Savio who added 4.3 ppg and 4.6 rpg as well.

Parking: For weekday games, the Leavey Center lot, located on Accolti Way off El Camino Real, is free beginning one hour prior to tipoff. Any other parking facility on campus will be subject to normal daily rates or restrictions, including the main structure, located on Palm Drive.
