West Coast Conference Play Opens for Women's Basketball with BYU

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's basketball opens West Coast Conference play Saturday, Dec. 29 against BYU in Leavey Center at 2 p.m.

The Broncos finished the nonconference slate with a 75-55 win over Grand Canyon on Dec. 20.

SERIES HISTORY
Santa Clara is 2-16 all-time against BYU with the first meeting coming in 1998-99. Last year the Cougars won both matchups.

THE BRONCOS
Santa Clara (7-4, 0-0 WCC) averaged 66.0 points per game during nonconference play while shooting 39.7-percent from the floor.

Tia Hay leads the team with 13.8 ppg, 2.7 assists per game, and 2.0 steals per game. Ashlyn Herlihy's 10.4 ppg are second and her 7.1 rebounds per game are tied for the team lead. Emily Wolph had hit a team-leading 16 3-pointers wand is averaging 7.6 ppg with 2.2 apg. Lauren Yearwood is tied for fourth in the country with 3.0 blocks per game and adds 7.1 rpg to go with 6.4 ppg.

THE COUGARS
BYU (8-3, 0-0 WCC) has a two game winning streak heading into conference play after beating Colorado State and Northern Colorado at home. The Cougars are scoring 66.5 ppg on 40.5-percent shooting from the field.

Shaylee Gonzales' 17.2 ppg is second in the WCC and she is shooting 48.0-percent from the field and 35.8-percent from beyond the arc. Brenna Chase leads the Cougars with 4.2 apg, 2.6 spg, and 26 3-pointers while scoring 12.3 ppg. Paisley Johnson scores 12.6 ppg with 5.7 rpg and Shalae Salmon has a team-high 6.1 rpg to go with 7.4 ppg.

Parking: For weekday games, the Leavey Center lot, located on Accolti Way off El Camino Real, is free beginning one hour prior to tipoff. Any other parking facility on campus will be subject to normal daily rates or restrictions, including the main structure, located on Palm Drive.
