SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Looking to right the ship, Santa Clara women's basketball heads out on the road and faces Portland Thursday at 7 p.m.

The Broncos dropped a pair of home contests to Pacific and Saint Mary's last week.

SERIES HISTORY
Santa Clara is 44-30 all-time against Portland with the first meeting coming in 1986-87. Last year the Broncos won both meetings and are on a 10-game winning streak against the Pilots.

THE BRONCOS
Santa Clara (9-9, 2-5 WCC) ranks third in the West Coast Conference in defense, allowing 63.8 points per game while forcing 15.9 turnovers per game and picking up 8.3 steals per game. The Broncos also lead the conference with 4.5 blocks per game.

Tia Hay is eighth in the league with 15.3 ppg and also leads Santa Clara with 3.3 assists per game, 2.2 steals per game, and 29 3-pointers made. Ashlyn Herlihy is second in both scoring (10.2 ppg) and rebounding (6.6 pg) and leads in minutes per game (32.8). Lauren Yearwood is 16th in the country with 2.6 bpg and leads the Broncos with 7.2 rpg, sixth in the WCC.

THE PILOTS
Portland (9-9, 1-6 WCC) is second in the conference with 74.5 ppg on 41.1-percent shooting from the floor and 32.4-percent from beyond the arc. The Pilots are tied for last in defense, allowing 72.9 ppg.

Julie Spencer leads the team with 15.8 ppg and Darian Slaga's 15.2 isn't far behind. Both players have hit a team-high 28 3-pointers with Spencer also leading the team with 7.6 rpg. Haylee Andrews averages a team-best 3.7 apg and is scoring 12.0 ppg as well.
