Women's Basketball Returns Home To Face San Jose State

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's basketball returns home for the final game at Leavey Center in November and takes on San Jose State Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

The Broncos opened the season with a big 109-51 win against UC Santa Cruz but fell at Arizona 65-52 despite a strong effort. 

SERIES HISTORY
Santa Clara is 29-25 all-time against San Jose State with the first meeting coming in 1963-64. Last year the Broncos went on the road for a 62-56 win at the Spartans.

THE BRONCOS
Santa Clara (1-1) is averaging 80.5 points per game on 53.0-percent shooting from the field and 42.4-percent from beyond the arc.

Merle Wiehl leads the team with 16.5 ppg and is shooting 65-percent from the floor to go with 4.5 rebounds per game. Lauren Yearwood is scoring 11.5 ppg with 3.0 rpg and three blocks. Lindsey VanAllen scores 11.0 ppg and Tia Hay is adding 9.5 with 3.0 assists per game.

THE SPARTANS
San Jose State (1-1) scores 80.5 ppg and is shooting 44.5-percent from the field and 51.2-percent from downtown. The Spartans are maing 10.5 3-pointers per game.

Five players average double-figures, led by Ayzhiana Basallo's 17.5. Tyra Whitehead scores 15.5 and leads the team with 9.0 rpg while Danae Marquez scores 12.5 with a team high 5.0 apg. Megan Anderson (11.0 ppg) and Fieme'a Hafoka (10.5 ppg) round out the double-digit scorers.

PARKING
For weekday games, the Leavey Center lot (see below for access), located on Accolti Way off El Camino Real, is free beginning one hour prior to tipoff. Any other parking facility on campus will be subject to normal daily rates or restrictions, including the main structure, located adjacent to Stevens Stadium on Palm Drive. The construction of the Stephen C. and Patricia A. Schott Athletic Excellence Center has necessitated the closure of the main entrance (off Accolti Way) to the Leavey Center parking lot. Access is now ONLY directly from El Camino Real (Route 82). If you are traveling east on El Camino Real, the Leavey lot entrance will be approximately 150 yards on the right (enter through the black iron gate) after you pass the main campus entrance. If you are traveling west on El Camino, make a u-turn at the main campus entrance at Palm Drive/Railroad Ave and follow the same directions.
