Pacific Knocks Off Beach Volleyball on Tuesday

STOCKTON, Calif. – Santa Clara beach volleyball was unable to build off its strong play from the weekend in Tuesday's West Coast Conference match against Pacific.

Despite pushing two matches to a third set, the Broncos were swept 5-0 by the Tigers (7-10, 4-2 WCC) who won in straight sets on courts two, three and five at the Raney Sand Volleyball Courts.

In the top pairing, Kirsten Mead and Hailey Lindberg of Santa Clara (1-10, 0-6 WCC) took the opening set before Andie Shelton and Skylar Wine rallied for a 19-21, 21-8, 15-9 win.

At the No. 4 position, the Bronco duo of Ngozi Nwabuzoh and Tatiana San Juan had a chance to claim the first two sets, but eventually fell to Emily Baptista and Hanne De Scrijver 23-21, 18-21, 15-5.

The Broncos played their first-ever matches on the Santa Clara campus on Saturday. In the morning session, San José State defeated Santa Clara, 3-2, before San Francisco won by the same score later in the afternoon.

NEXT UP
The Broncos face No. 20 Saint Mary's at home on Wednesday in the regular-season finale. The match is set for 3 p.m. The WCC Championship begins Friday, April 20, in Santa Monica, California.

THE GAELS

Saint Mary's (13-9, 6-3 WCC) boasts a strong pair of top teams with Morgan Hughes/Payton Rund (15-7) and Emily Bible/Lindsey Knudsen (13-9). The Gaels defeated the 13 th-ranked Cardinal at the Stanford West Coast Classic in their last match on Sunday. They are 2-0 against the Broncos this season, winning consecutive matches over Santa Clara on March 3 (4-1) and March 13 (5-0).
