Santa Clara Rowers Take on UC Santa Barbara

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara University men's and women's rowers will be testing their times in a head-to-head race against UC Santa Barbara Saturday morning, April 9 at the Port of Redwood City.

The Broncos are in the midst of their busiest competition schedule of the year, racing every weekend during the month of April, preparing for the West Coast Conference (WCC) and Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) championships at the end of the month.

"We had a solid showing (last weekend) at the San Diego Crew Classic with our varsity eight," said first-year Santa Clara women's rowing head coach John Wojtkiewicz. "While we were not able to achieve our goal of advancing to the petite final and racing on Sunday morning, the eight did put down two of their fastest times ever, which was a significant achievement."

Building on that performance a week ago, the SCU women aim for continuous improvement and to give UC Santa Barbara a good race. The men's and women's Varsity 8 will initiate Saturday's competition schedule, with the men set to begin at 8 a.m. The women's Varsity 8 will race at 8:15 a.m.
