Women's Rowing Finishes Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - In the final races before the West Coast Conference Championships May 12 and 13, Santa Clara women's rowing competed in six races at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships in Lake Natoma, Calif. over the weekend. The Broncos best finish was third place in the Women's Lightweight Four against three other teams. The Broncos time in that race was 8:18.7.

"This was a tough weekend for the whole team," said Santa Clara head coach John Wojtkiewicz. "While we certainly weren't the only team there unable to meet our goals, it served as a harsh, but perhaps necessary, lesson for our young team.  It was encouraging to see how well our crews were rowing compared to some others and our crews represented themselves as technically proficient. It is clear what we lack is the overall fitness and power that will come with multiple years and seasons of training. The next two years will be critical as we fill in the senior and junior classes.  The class of 2014 continues to show tremendous promise and I will venture to say when they are seniors they will do as well or better then some of the best crews in Santa Clara history."
