SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara rowing competed vs. Mills College on April 12 at Redwood Shores. The Broncos competed in four events and won each. They will return to the water for the final tune up before WIRAs starting Fri., April 24 in Sacramento, Calif. at Lake Natoma.

"It was a really nice day to try and go out and test our speed, unfortunately none of our crews were really quite up for it," said Santa Clara head coach John Wojtkiewicz. "The varsity eight under-stroked their piece by one or two beats and I think that could have helped them sustain some better pacing. We tried a new lineup in the JV8 that clearly didn't work well for boat speed, so are going to try some new things there as well. The fours won also but could have also gone faster."

With the season beginning to wind down Santa Clara can begin to focus on the last races of the year and push themselves even further.

"We have four weeks before the WCC championships and we're at the point in the season where we can really start pushing the redline in terms of rating and pressure," added Wojtkiewicz. "We're looking forward to seeing how the changes we make this week impact our performance against St. Mary's on Saturday."

The Broncos head into their race against the Gaels with some extra motivation.

"Our annual race against St. Mary's is a special event for us, and we're preparing for this one with a little extra motivation," said Wojtkiewicz. "It's a great rivalry between our two programs and we're hoping for a great race. We have some margins to make up on the Varsity eight and JV based off of times from San Diego, but we're hoping the changes we make and the extra motivation can dig into some of that margin."
