SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's rowing opened its season Sunday with a sweep of Mills College in four races on Lexington Reservoir.

The Broncos posted a time of 7:11.4 to Mills' 7:44.5 in the Varsity 8. They were at 7:22.8 in the 2nd Varsity 8 while Mills was 8:38.0. In the Varsity Four, the Broncos posted a time of 7:52.8 with Mills racing two boats and finishing at 8:10.6 and 8:16.3. In the Novice 4 Santa Clara won with a time of 8:25.1 to Mills' 9:33.9.

"I thought the team performed well," Santa Clara head coach Matt Pinschmidt said. "We changed our on water training plan a bit this year to better prepare for our early season racing and it seems to be helping. Both 8's went slightly faster than they have been going in practice. I'm hopeful that this performance adds confidence to our regular training and carries over to next weekend's racing."

Santa Clara is back on the water Sunday against UC Davis, Orange Coast College, and Humboldt State at the Port of Sacramento.
