Fresno, Calif.-Miki Ueoka found herself in familiar territory after the first round of the Kitahara Fresno State Invitational. She is currently tied for 5th at +1 while leading the team to a 12th place spot and a team score of 307 going into the final day of the tournament.

"We're basing our outcome not on where we place, but how we score as a team," said head coach Polly Schulze. "We tried to get under 310, which we did, and we're going to build on it. We see that as a success no matter how that places us in the field."

Ueoka started hot, going two-under in her first three holes, but three bogeys over the next four dropped her to one-over where she parred out the rest of the round.

Katie Sharp had a solid round as well. She was on pace to tie Ueoka at +1, but two bogeys to end her round landed her at +3 and tied for 20th.

"It's great to see our other freshman, Katie, having a good day like this," said Schulze. "We're looking forward to her having a great rest of the tournament."

Jenny Nelson had a rough start to her tournament, going +4 in her first three holes, but settled down to end her first round at +7.

Jamie Nonaka also had a bumpy first nine, bogeying seven of her first nine, but her two birdies helped her climb to eight-over.

Corey Utsurogi is the final Bronco at the tournament. She was eight-over after the first nine holes, but got her stroke back and went just one-over for the rest of her round.

The second and final round of the Kitahara Invitational starts tomorrow morning as the Broncos look to build upon their start.
