NIPOMO, Calif. – Twenty five mile per
hour winds have contributed to tough playing conditions Monday for
the Santa Clara University women's golf team at the Monarch Dunes
Golf Club in Nipomo.
SCU is competing at the third annual Firestone Grill Cal
Poly Invitational, which is being played Monday and Tuesday, Oct.
4-5, at the Monarch Dunes Golf Club on California's central coast.

Santa Clara posted a first round total of 310 as a team, with Miki
Ueoka and Tamara
Surtees leading the way at 76, followed by Lauren Oh at
77 and true freshmen Brooke Stephens
and Taylor
Camany at 81.
"I'm pleased with where we're at after round one," said Santa
Clara head coach Polly Schulze. "It could have been a little bit
lower with a few more putts dropping for us. But with the
conditions here, it's an opportunity for us. If we stay strong and
post another decent score, we will be right in the mix
tomorrow."
