SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa
Clara University women's golf program is preparing to host the 2010
SCU Colby Invitational at San Jose's Silver Creek Valley Country
Club on Monday and Tuesday, October 25-26.
The 36-hole tournament will begin Monday morning and run through
Tuesday with 18 holes being played both days. There will be an 8
a.m. shotgun start on both Monday and Tuesday.
Silver Creek Valley Country
Club plays to a par-72 with a yardage of 6,059 and has a course
rating of 74.0 with a slope rating of 140. The seven-team field is
led by Fresno State University, who brings in a ranking of No. 82
by GolfWeek.
"Thanks to our mental game consultant, Rick Sessinghaus, the
team is doing a great job of putting outcome goals aside and
focusing only on the process of making each shot," says Santa
Clara head coach Polly Schulze. "This is always a work in
progress but I am really proud of how well they are taking to this
concept."
The Broncos out-played the field in final round play at the
Firestone Grill Invitational in Nipomo last time out. SCU shot a
tournament-best round of 300 to place second overall in the
nine-team event hosted by Cal Poly.

Key tournament supporters include Marygrace Colby and the Birdies
for Wishes program. Colby, who was hired by Santa Clara
University in 1963 "to direct and instruct young women in
recreational and athletic pursuits." For years Marygrace
selflessly and single-handedly coached ALL women's sports at Santa
Clara!
"The Santa Clara women's sports programs would not be where are
where they are today without Marygrace," says
Schulze. "This tournament is our small way of thanking
Marygrace for years of support, for not only past female athletes
at Santa Clara but for our present day athletes and those to
come."
As is done on the LPGA and PGA Tours, this event will be one that
creates local charitable giving. Through Santa Clara's Birdies For
Wishes program over $30,000 has been raised to benefit The
Greater Bay Area Make A Wish Foundation.
The goal for the Colby Invitational is to raise another $2,000. Devcon Construction has
generously pledged $10 for every birdie and $15 for every eagle
made by all players. Each school competing has received permission
for their student-athletes to participate in the fundraising
portion of the event.
Daily results for the tournament will be available at golfstat.com.
