SAN JOSE, Calif. –
Junior Tamara
Surtees of Santa Clara University finished in first place at
the Colby Invitational at the Silver Creek Valley Country Club, shooting a
second round 74 and beating teammate Miki
Ueoka after three playoff holes.
Boston College finished in first with a total score of 610 to win
the tournament. Their two top players finished tied for third
place with scores of 150.
The Broncos finished strong on the second day of the tournament,
shooting a 304. Starting the day in fifth place, Santa Clara
finished with a total of 619 for the tournament which was good for
second place overall.
"After a tough day one for the team, they once again battled back
to erase a six shot deficit to move from fifth to second as a
team," said Santa Clara head coach Polly
Schulze. "This is the second tournament in a row where
the team showed their true grit in posting solid numbers on day
two.
"Individually it could not have been more exciting. Tamara
Surtees and Miki Ueoka
tied for first with a 149 forcing a sudden death playoff. After
three playoff holes, Tamara clinched her first collegiate win by
rolling in a downhill 15 foot putt for birdie.
"I am so proud of both Tamara and Miki for playing so well today.
Being such good friends I know it was tough on them to go head to
head for the win and I am glad it was won with a great birdie
putt.
"We are excited to head to Cal Poly next week to keep building on
our momentum. The team is ready for the team win and I am excited
to see what happens."
