SCU Women Equal BYU In Final Round of WSU's Cougar Cup

PULLMAN, Wash. - Balbina Guajardo, Taylor Camany and Kaci McCartan posted solid final-round scores as Santa Clara's women's golf team finished its first event of the 2012-13 season with a collective 302 - 13 shots better than its team score from Monday afternoon.

SCU Head Coach Krystal Kelly said her team's goal this season would be posting rounds of 305 or lower. The Broncos indeed broke the 305 mark during final round play Tuesday at the Palouse Ridge Golf Club. As a group, Santa Clara tied WCC rival BYU for tenth.

Guajardo (pictured) - a senior from Monterrey, Mexico - was the top finisher for the Broncos, coming in with rounds of 75-77-73 to tie for 19th. Camany and McCartan each enjoyed their best rounds of the 54-hole event during final-round play Tuesday. Camany posted a 2-over par 75 and McCartan was even at 73.

Each student-athlete not chosen to make the trip to Pullman this week will be entered in SCU's next event, the 2012 Firestone Cal Poly Invitational at Monarch Dunes Golf Course Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 8 and 9.
