SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's golf team will enter five players - all as individuals - at Cal Poly's 5th-annual Firestone Grill Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 8-9. The group includes two true freshmen who will be making their collegiate debuts.
The Broncos and head coach Krystal Kelly are excited to see how the young players respond to their first tournament action next week. Newcomers Monique Riley and Sadie Strain, along with returners Brooke Stephens, Casey Briggs and Morgan McClure will all tee it up for the first time this fall on what Golf Digest ranks as one of "America's Top 50 Golf Courses for Women," Monarch Dunes Golf Club in Nipomo.
Santa Clara entered five players in Washington State's WSU Cougar Cup Sept. 24-25. In Nipomo, each student-athlete not chosen to make the trip up to Pullman will be entered as individuals (meaning SCU's overall team score will not count).
SCU's strong performance at Washington State has moved the team up to No. 114 in the national rankings. All 10 players reported to campus in mid-September and the team has been practicing twice a week at Cinnabar Hills Golf Course in South San Jose. Additionally, three times per week, the student-athletes undergo fitness training under the direction of SCU Women's Golf Strength and Conditioning Coach Sherman Trigg.

Dates: Monday, Oct. 8, 2012 and Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012

Women's Field* (7 teams): Sacramento State, #Santa Clara, Cal Poly, CSU Northridge, Biola (NAIA), Claremont McKenna (DIII)
Details: A total of seven women's teams will be competing in three rounds over two days. The first and second rounds will be played consecutively on Monday, beginning with morning tee times. The final round is scheduled for Tuesday.
