SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's golf team had true freshmen Sadie Strain and Monique Riley finish 10th and 14th respectively at Cal Poly's 5th-annual Firestone Grill Invitational at Monarch Dunes Golf Club in Nipomo.

Strain - one of the top prep golfers coming out of Northern California this year - posted a final-round 72, just one-over par and the best score among any Bronco competing at the event. Riley, a Pleasanton, Calif. product, starred on the Future Collegians World Tour last season. She finished with rounds of 76 and 77 to move up into 14th on the final leaderboard.

The group Santa Clara and head coach Krystal Kelly sent down to Nipomo included the two true freshmen and returners Brooke Stephens, Casey Briggs and Morgan McClure. All the SCU players were entered as individuals (meaning SCU's overall team score did not count).

Looking ahead, the Broncos will bring a No. 114 national ranking into next week's University of Wyoming Desert Classic in Palm Desert, Calif. Oct. 13-14. Following the trip down to the desert, SCU hosts its annual SCU Colby Invitational here in San Jose, Oct. 22-23.
