SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's golf team finished strong at its own SCU Colby Invitational on Tuedsay. The Broncos, led by senior Balbina Guajardo, took third among an 11-team field.
The event, held at Silver Creek Valley Country Club in San Jose, saw Ball State take tournament title honors with rounds of 303 and 302 (+29) as a team. Ball State's Jenna Hague was 2-under par, and won the event by three shots.
Guajardo - Santa Clara's scoring leader from a year ago - was just five shots off the lead and finished fourth with rounds of 72 and 75. It was SCU true freshmen Meghan Shain and Sadie Strain coming in 16th and 24th respectively among 68 women in the field.
Santa Clara has one more fall tournament prior to the winter break. The Broncos will play at the Lamkin Grip Cal Poly Invitational Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 29-30.
