SANTA CLARA, Calif.- The Santa Clara University women's golf team and head coach Krystal Kelly have received a National Letter of Intent from Annie Freman (Las Vegas, Nev./Faith Lutheran High School). Freman is one of the nation's top juniors and also an exceptional student. She will be attending the University and playing for the Broncos in 2013-14.
"I am thrilled to welcome Annie and the Fremans to the Bronco family," said Kelly. "Annie will make an automatic impact on this program. There will be some big shoes to fill since Balbina (Guajardo) is graduating and I know that Annie will definitely help fill the gap. It was fun watching her play this summer, and a successful summer it was! It is evident that she embodies style and class, both on and off the golf course."
In August Freman broke a course record by shooting a round of 66 during the AJGA Bass Pro Shops/Payne Stewart Junior Championship in Springfield, Mo. en route to winning the tournament title. One week later she nearly won the prestigious Trusted Choice Big I National Championship in Austin, Tex.
Freman is ranked No. 17 in the 2013 class, owns an AJGA Polo Golf Ranking of No. 39 and a 73.5 scoring average. As mentioned, she will no doubt bolster an already deep young team Kelly is building at SCU.
Along with claiming Nevada State Junior Amateur Championships in 2009 (13-14) and 2012 (15-17), additional achievements include leading Faith Lutheran to the Division IA Nevada State High School Girls Championship, being honored as a 2012 Rolex Junior All-America honorable mention and earning 2011 Las Vegas Player of the Year honors.
Freman's academic accomplishments are equally impressive. She is currently serving as Faith Lutheran's Student Body President where she has earned honor roll distinction since 2009. Between her golfing and schoolwork, Freman is giving back to her community by volunteering for various organizations such as Silver Sky's Assisted Living Facility and the First Tee of Southern Nevada.
