Orange County the Site for SCU’s 2013 Women’s Golf Opener

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Yorba Linda Country Club in Orange County will be the site of the 2013 opener for the Santa Clara University women's golf team. The Broncos will match up with 10 other schools, including WCC rivals BYU and Gonzaga. The event takes place on Monday and Tuesday, February 11 and 12.

Krystal Kelly, who has done a remarkable job recruiting in her two-plus years as SCU head coach, is armed with a deep and diverse group of student-athletes this spring. The Broncos have 10 golfers in their 2012-13 roster, which includes one senior, three juniors, two sophomores and four freshmen.

"We are really looking forward to tee it up on Monday," Kelly said on Friday. "It is a great field and Yorba Linda is a great golf course. The (student-athletes) have been working hard, and if that is any indication, this should be a successful spring season for us. Can't wait to see how they play."

Senior scoring-leader Balbina Guajardo (Monterrey, Mexico / American School Foundation of Monterrey) will be playing in the top spot for the Broncos. Freshman Monique Riley (Pleasanton, Calif. / Amador Valley) junior All-WCC honoree Taylor Camany (Salinas, Calif. / Salinas), freshman Ashley Noda (Roseville, Calif. / St. Francis) and sophomore Kaci McCartan (Plano, Tex. / Ursuline Academy) - pictured above - round out the SCU lineup for the Gold Rush event.

The Broncos will play twice more later this month, first at Stanford's Peg Barnard Invitational February 16-17. Following the event up in Palo Alto, SCU will then compete in the UCI Anteater Invitational February 25-26.
