SANTA ANA, Calif. - Upperclassmen Taylor Camany and Balbina Guajardo were both among the top 20 at the 2013 UCI Invitational presented by Kia this week, helping Santa Clara University place sixth among a 12-team field at Santa Ana Country Club in Orange County.
Camany carded impressive rounds of 73-78-75 to finish tied for 10th overall. Guajardo finished the event strong with scores of 81-74-75 to place tied for 17th. As a team Santa Clara once again out-played West Coast Conference foe BYU, while also getting the best of No. 92 Idaho.
Boosted by an opening round 67, Gonzaga's Alice Kim won the individual title by four shots over North Dakota State's Amy Anderson. Kim claims a sponsor exemption into the LPGA's 2013 Kia Classic (the UCI Invitational event is the only collegiate tournament in the country that allows the winner to participate in an LPGA event).
Gonzaga - the top ranked team coming in to the tournament - also claimed the team title by topping host UC Irvine and Long Beach State.
