Second Round 303 Moves Women’s Golf To Fifth At Spartan Invitational

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Santa Clara women's golf team scored a 303, the third lowest of the second-round and a 14-shot improvement over the first round to move into fifth place after the first day of competition at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational, played on the 6,143-yard, par-72 Almaden Golf and Country Club in San Jose.

With a two-round total of 620 (+44) the Broncos are four shots behind third place Boise State and one in back of BYU for fourth. Fresno State leads the pack with a 597 (+21) total followed by host San Jose State at 609 (+33).

Freshman Kristin Le shot rounds of 76 and 77 to pace the Broncos with a 9-over 153 tied for 14th place. Meghan Shain shot a 1-over 73 in the second round to climb into a tie for 17th at 154 (+10).

A second round 74 moved junior Monique Riley up the leaderboard into a tie for 24th at 157 (+13) while Ashley Noda had rounds of 80 and 79 to tie for 30th at 159 (+16).  Sophomore Annie Freman had identical rounds of 80 for a 160 (+16) total and rests in a tie for 32nd heading into tomorrow's final round.

Fresno State's Hannah Sodersten and Gudrun Bjorgvinsdottir share the lead at 4-over 148, one shot ahead of a trio of golfers.

Kyleigh Moreno (163), Kaci McCartan (164) and Isabella Salant (171) are all competing as individuals for the Broncos with their scores not counting towards the team total.
