SEDONA, Ariz. – The Santa Clara women's golf team shot a final round 303 moving up one spot on the leaderboard to claim a fifth place tie at the 20-team Red Rocks Invitational, completed Saturday at the 5,579-yard, par-72 Oakcreek Country Club.
The Broncos' 610 (+34) total put them in a tie with South Dakota State, one shot behind Eastern Michigan. Tournament host Northern Arizona won the team title with a 597 (+21) total followed by Cal Poly (602) and Grand Canyon (606).
Annie Freman paced the Broncos in Saturday's final round with a 1-over 73 to finish in a tie for 15th with teammate Kristin Le and seven other golfers at 151 (+7). Meghan Shain tied for 28th at 153 (74-79) while Ashley Noda had a four-shot improvement Saturday to finish at 156 (80-76) tied for 51st. A final round 81 dropped Monique Riley into a tie for 80th at 160 (79-81).
Grand Canyon's Charlotte Jaengkit and Sophie Peters of Nebraska-Omaha tied for individual medalist honors at even-par 144.
Competing as an individual Santa Clara freshman Taylor Gentzkow finished with a 171 total (86-85).
After completing two tournaments in less than a week, the Broncos will take some time off from tournament play ahead of their trip to Hawai'i for the three-day Anuenue Spring Break Classic, which gets underway March 23.
