Strong Second Round Lifts Women’s Golf At Red Raider Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas – After a rough start the Santa Clara women's golf team had a solid finish to the first day of the Red Raider Invitational. Kristin Le fired a 1-under 71 and Kyleigh Moreno was at even-par 72 helping the Broncos record the third-lowest score of the second round at the 15-team event.

With their second round 297, the Broncos climbed into a tie for ninth-place with North Florida with a two-round total of 610 (+34). A first round 313 put them in a deep hole, but the Broncos were able to chop 16 strokes off their team score over the next 18 holes.

New Mexico State ended the day with a three-stroke lead over host Texas Tech with a two-round total of 585.

Le moved up 31 spots on the individual leaderboard with her second-round effort. She ended the first day of competition tied for 25th at 7-over 151 (80-71).

Moreno is the Broncos highest finisher after two rounds. The junior followed her 78 with a career-low 72 to place in a tie for 17th at 6-over 150.

With rounds of 78 and 77, Keilyn Ing enters final round play tied for 45th.  Annie Freman is two shots behind Ing and tied for 53rd at 157. Freshman Chloe Wong overcame first-tournament jitters and improved 10 strokes with a second-round 77.

Texas Tech's Lauren Mason holds a two-shot lead over teammate Gabby Barker entering the final 18 holes. Tuesday's final round will get underway at 6 a.m. PT from the 6,541-yard, par-72 The Rawls Course.
