SAN JOSE, Calif. – Santa Clara women's golf scored a final round 306 to finish in a sixth-place tie with a 908 total at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational, completed today at the 6,194-yard, par-72 Almaden Golf and Country Club.
The Broncos fell two spots on the team leaderboard after recording their highest score of the two-day event. "We got off to a rough start today so we had a hard time battling back," head coach Krystal Kelly said. "The hole locations were a little bit more challenging than yesterday."
Junior Kristin Le shot a final round 2-over 74 to finish the tournament in a seventh-place tie at 5-over 221. She ended nine shots behind individual medalist Kendra Dalton of BYU, who scored a 4-under 212. Le began the day going 5-over on her first three holes, but rallied for four birdies the rest of the way to claim her 13th career top-10 finish.
"Kristin played great today, especially after her first three holes," Kelly added.
Senior Annie Freman scored a team-low final-round 1-over 73 to move up 12 spots on the leaderboard. She ended tied for 22nd at 12-over 228.
Playing her first event of the season, junior Isabella Salant scored a final-round 79 to finish 39th at 234. Kyleigh Moreno tied for 27th at 231 and Chloe Wong tied for 36th with a 233 total.
"The positive is we held our own with teams that are ranked higher than us," Kelly noted. "We just need to put it all together on the same day, because everyone has shown they can score. Overall, I'm happy. There are just few things we need to tighten up before our next tournament."
The next event is schedule for October 1 when the Broncos will compete in the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic in Palm Springs.
