PALM DESERT, Calif. – Senior Annie Freman finished up the first day of competition at the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate with a two-round total of 6-under 138 to enter the clubhouse with a four-shot lead, helping Santa Clara women's golf to a three-shot lead over Hawai'i on the team leaderboard.
Freman was tied for the individual lead after a first-round 2-under 70 and broke away over the next 18 holes with a 4-under 68. She enters Sunday's final round with the advantage over Southern Utah's Kamonwan Prasurtwong. The two are the only golfers in the 69-player field to complete the first 36 holes under par.
The Broncos climbed from fourth to first after they scored a season-low 292 in the second round, holding a slim lead in a congested top four with a 590 (+14) total. Hawai'i (593), Cal Poly (594) and UC Riverside (595) are close behind.
Junior Kyleigh Moreno is in position for her second career top-10 finish after scoring rounds of 76 and 73 to place in a tie for 11th at 5-over 149. Kristin Le is one-shot behind her teammate and tied for 13th at 6-over 150.
Chloe Wong is tied for 20th at 153 and Keilyn Ing had a two-round total of 171. Playing as an individual, Isabella Salant is in 55th place with a 164 total.
The Broncos are looking for their 10th team win under head coach Krystal Kelly while Freman can add to her program record of five individual titles. Final round play at the 6,112-yard, par-72 Classic Club will begin with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m.
