Women’s Golf Finishes 11th At The Gold Rush

SEAL BEACH, Calif. – Santa Clara women's golf scored a final round 305 to finish play at the Gold Rush in 11th place with a 917 team total. After second round action was suspended due to darkness on Monday, teams and individuals got an earlier start this morning on the 6,097-yard, par-72 Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach.

The Broncos completed second round play with a 308 total and dropped two spots on the team leaderboard with their final round score. San Jose State was the wire-to-wire winner, placing 11 shots better than runner-up BYU.

"We are moving in the right direction," head coach Krystal Kelly said. "We just need to find the consistency we had in the fall. I'm confident our scores will continue to improve."

Senior Annie Freman was the Broncos top individual performer, ending the two-day, three-round event tied for 21st with a 9-over 225. She carded a final round 3-over 75.

Junior Kristin Le had the Broncos best round of the day with a 2-over 74 and moved up 10 spots on the leaderboard to finish in a tie for 33rd at 12-over 228.

Idaho's Sophie Hausmann completed her comeback with a tournament-best 65 on Tuesday to overtake San Jose State's My Leander for individual medalist honors.

Juniors Kyleigh Moreno and Isabella Salant each carded a final round 6-over 78. Moreno tied for 54th with her 234 (+18) total while Salant had a major improvement over her first two rounds. Salant chopped eight strokes off her second round score and ended with a 250 total.

Freshman Chloe Wong stumbled to a final round 84 and dropped into a tie for 62nd place with her 20-over 236 total.

The Broncos will have two weeks to regroup before their next competition. They are scheduled to compete in the Fresno State Classic beginning on Mar. 13.
