KAPALUA, Hawai'i – Playing close to home in one of the spring's deepest fields, Kristin Le and Chloe Wong each carded an opening-round 2-over-74 to lead Santa Clara women's golf into seventh place at the Anuenue Spring Break Classic, which is being competed at the 6,012-yard Kapalua Bay Course on Maui.

The Broncos carded a 15-over 303 on Monday in the 15-team field that features five schools ranked in the GolfStat.com top 50, including three in the top 10.

Seventh-ranked UCLA posted an opening-round 3-over 291 to claim a two-shot lead over both No. 33 Colorado and No. 42 San Jose State. No. 4-ranked Arizona State is four strokes off the pace at 9-over 297.

Lilia Vu of UCLA is atop the individual leaderboard after firing a 5-under 67, one of only three rounds under par. Le and Wong are tied for 16th among the 90 golfers in the field.

Santa Clara, No. 90 nationally, is just four shots behind top-ranked Stanford, which had only Casey Danielson, who is tied for ninth with a 1-over 73, among the top 20 individuals.

Le, a junior who hails from Aiea, Hawai'i, had four birdies, but was over par on five holes. Wong, a first-year Honolulu native, had four bogeys and two birdies.

Santa Clara's Isabella Salant is tied for 33rd after posting a 5-over 77. Teammates Annie Freman and Kyleigh Moreno were each one stroke behind Salant and tied for 43rd.

The Broncos will tee off at 10:45 a.m. Pacific on Tuesday in a shotgun start to the second round.
