SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara women's golf team will compete in the 18-team Wyoming Cowgirl Classic beginning Thursday in its final tuneup before the WCC Championship. The 54-hole event will be contested over two days on the 6,131-yard, par-72 Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz.
The Broncos, and in particular senior Annie Freman, have enjoyed plenty of success on this course and look to gain some momentum before the conference championship. Freman captured two of her program record six individual titles at this event, winning last year with a career-best and tournament-record 54-hole score of 9-under 207.
"We are super excited to play this week," head coach Krystal Kelly said. "Ak-Chin is one of our favorite courses."
Freman, along with juniors Kristin Le and Kyleigh Moreno were part of Santa Clara's team that carded a season-best 881 to take runner-up honors at last year's Cowgirl Classic. The trio will anchor the five-player team beginning Thursday. The Broncos also took second place here in 2014.
Santa Clara is coming off a ninth-place finish at the Anuenue Spring Break Classic two weeks ago. Moreno carded a career-low round of 2-under 70 in the final round of that event.
Freshman Chloe Wong and junior Isabella Salant will round out the team. Freshman Isabella Seeburger will compete as an individual.
"We definitely have some momentum going into this tournament," Kelly noted. "We are going to focus on our process and have fun."
Teams and individuals will play 36 holes on Thursday beginning with a shotgun start at 7:45 a.m. PDT. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
