SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's golf is set to compete at the WCC Championship tournament beginning Thursday. The three-day event will cover three rounds and be contested on the 6,527-yard, par-72 Riverside Country Club in Provo, Utah.

All five golf playing schools will compete in the event with BYU looking to repeat its title from a year ago. The Cougars, ranked No. 27 in the recent golfstat.com poll, will also have the home course advantage. The Broncos have never finished higher than third at this tournament and enter with a ranking of 94.

The Broncos are coming off their highest finish in the spring with a fifth-place showing at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic two weeks ago and will look to build off that. They posted three team titles during the fall.

"We're really excited to get back out there," head coach Krystal Kelly said. "Our scoring has improved each tournament, so hopefully that will give us some confidence going into the next three rounds."

Senior Annie Freman will anchor Santa Clara's five-player team. The most decorated player in Santa Clara's history with six individual titles, Freman had her best showing at the WCC Tournament last season when she tied for second-place.

Juniors Kristin Le, Kyleigh Moreno, Isabella Salant and freshman Chloe Wong make up the rest of the Broncos squad.

"It sounds like the greens are going to be really fast and hole locations are going to be difficult so it's just a matter of positioning yourself correctly on the greens," Kelly said of the Riverside Country Club course. "The more they have fun out there and play relaxed golf, the better we play."

Teams will play a single 18-hole round on each of the three days with four players counting scores toward the team total. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
