ANACONDA, Mont. – Santa Clara women's golf shot a second-round low 3-over 291 to move into third place after the opening day of the Battle at Old Works, contested on the 6,456-yard, par 72 Old Works Golf Club. The Broncos climbed two spots on the team leaderboard after an opening round 300 and are seven shots off the lead heading into Tuesday's final round.

Santa Clara's second-round score was its lowest since carding a 290 last October at the Lady Mustang Invitational. The Broncos went on to claim the team title at that event. They trail second-round leader North Dakota State by seven shots and are three strokes behind Cal State Northridge for second.

"We played well, especially in the second round," head coach Krystal Kelly said. "But we still have some work to do tomorrow. We have a super young team, but no matter what happens, it's a great experience for all of them."

The Broncos were led by their trio of veteran players with Chloe Wong having the best showing. The sophomore recorded a career-best round of 72 over the opening 18 holes and bettered that with a 1-under 71 later in the day. She entered the clubhouse tied for second place with North Dakota State's Natalie Roth at 1-under 143, one shot behind leader Baylee Barckley of Montana.

Senior Kyleigh Moreno carded a second-round 1-under 71 to move into a tie for eighth place at 2-over 146. Fellow senior Kristin Le whittled two strokes off her first-round 76 to close the day with a 2-over 74, taking sole possession of 17th place with a 6-over 150.

Competing in their first tournament as members of the Santa Clara squad, sophomore Marni Murez scored rounds of 77 and 75 to tie for 19th at 8-over 152. Freshman Emily Sumner rebounded from a first-round 78 to shoot a 75 over the second 18 holes. She's tied for 23rd at 9-over 153.

Competing as an individual, freshman Sarah Busey totaled a 13-over 157 (81-76) to tie for 33rd after the first two rounds of her collegiate career.

Teams and individuals will play a single 18-hole final round on Tuesday starting at 7:30 a.m. (PT). Live scoring is available at Golfstatresults.com.
